Special Olympics Field Day

Here at A Child’s Joy, we absolutely love being involved in our community. Every year, sometimes twice a year, a guy named Jesse calls us up to order a dunk tank for his event. He organizes the Special Olympics for Arizona and we not only value his business, but look forward to his event every year!

Jesse is a pretty busy guy but, we were lucky enough to get a quick interview with him, check it out!

Meet Jesse

How long have you worked with the Special Olympics and what do you do specifically?

“I have worked for Special Olympics Arizona for three years now and I am the Healthy Athletes Coordinator.”

Healthy Athletes work to improve access to health care for Special Olympics Arizona athletes, through event based screening. Special Olympics Arizona currently offer health screenings in Podiatry, Physical Therapy, Health Promotion (Health and Wellness), Sports Physicals, Optometry, Audiology, and Sports Psychology.

Healthy Athletes also make referrals to local health practitioners when appropriate, as well as train healthcare professionals and students about the needs and care of people with intellectual disabilities. All this data is collected and analyzed to improve health policies and programs for people with intellectual disabilities.

What is the best thing about your job?The best thing about my job is that I am making a difference in these athletes lives by improving their health.”

A Child’s Joy Dunk TankDescribe the event that you use A Child’s Joy dunk tanks for… I use the dunk tanks to entertain athletes at my screening’s, where Special Olympics Arizona staff and key volunteers are dunked. It’s really fun.”

Who doesn’t like to watch someone get dunked?!
